FORMATION
Lionism was first introduced in Labuan in the year 1978 when Lions Club of Kota Kinabalu Hosts felt that opportunity should be presented to those service minded persons in Labuan to work together to contribute their share for humanitarian services and for the betterment of the local community.
The first meeting was held on 18th November 1978 at Labuan Golf Club.
21 prominent persons from Labuan and the extension committee (Comprises of 3 senior members) from sponsoring club(Lions Club of Kota Kinabalu Host) lead by its then President Lion Peter Athanasius attended this meeting. A Protem committee was formed with Datuk H.M. Stanfield being unanimously elected as the Protem Chairman.
The inauguration meeting was held at Labuan Golf Club on 7th February 1979. The First Board of Directors were duly elected with Lion Jamal Nordin elected as the Charter President.
The Lions Club of Labuan was officially Chartered on 30th March 1979 by The International Association of Lions Club.
The Charter night - the most memorable and ceremonial event was held on 22nd December 1979.The Induction of 25 Charter Members and Installation of the First Board of Directors was conducted by then District Governor the late Lion H.K. Lau.
