Kona Lions Club becomes first in Lions history to accept a “woman” member - Madame Pele (Goddess of the volcano) - after an earthquake hits during Kona’s charter night, June 19, 1934.

Who are the Lions Club of Kona?

We are the home of four district governors and one Past International Director- Lion Yasuki Nakagawa, '61-'62; Lion Albert Akana, '73-'74; Lion Norman Sakata. '91-'92 and Lion Mitch Tam 2021-2022

We are also the home of Past International Director-Lion Maurice Kahawaii

 

Lions Club of Kona has 34 Melvin Jones Fellows, 9 of which are progressive, totaling 22 diamonds.

We sponsor and support the Leo Club of Konawaena High School and perform annual hearing and vision screening at several area elementary schools.

In 2022, we awarded a total of $6,500 in continued education scholarships to 6 graduating seniors from Konawaena High School.

 

In the 40's, for about 20 years sponsored a Biddy Basketball League for about 200 youngsters.

In the 50's, the Lions cleared kiawe and koa growth and removed rocks to expand Kahaluu Beach park.

We have adopted Higashihara Park through " The Friends of Higashihara Park" and have donated a riding mower to Konawaena High Athletics Department.
