Senior Citizens Party
90 senior citizens attended the annual party provided for them by the Lions Club at the parish centre. Lions Mary Berney and Eileen Doyle organised the event and the guests were served sandwiches, cakes and drinks as they listened to music from John Kelly and Willie Redmond on the accordian. It wasn't long before they found their feet and took to the dance floor with several party pieces being performed!
Star of the show was Mrs Bridgie Aspell who, at 103 years of age, enjoyed a glass of the "quare stuff" and accepted her presentation of a lovely brooch from the Newbridge Silverware Maureen O'Hara collection.

Strictly Come Dancing
Kilcullen Style!
Following the successful running of this event last year, Kilcullen Lions Club collaborated with Kilcullen GAA to run another "Strictly" to raise funds for both organisations. Jim Kiely once again led the organising from the Lions Club side. Dancers and dance lessons were sourced, venue booked, program printed, advertising sold and a myriad other tasks completed to get this show on the road. Most of the dancers were very well known faces from Kilcullen including Aoife McGivern from Nolans butchers, Eleanor Higgins who teaches at CPC and Joe Dooley who coaches at Kilcullen GAA.. MC John Kelly and judgs Evelyn O'Sullivan, Tracey Piggot, Bernard Berney and Terry Coyne provided insightful commentary and humour throughout the rounds of different dance styles. A great night was had by all at Toughers and the winning dancers were Eleanor Higgins and Joe Dooley with Aoife McGivern and Paul Barrett filling the runner up spot. Well done to all for organising and taking part!

INTEL Ideation Workshop
CPC Kilcullen School
The Ideation workshop for CPC was held in the KARE facility beside the school. Facilitated by Clodagh Kavanagh and mentored by Lions Club members Jim Kiely, Joe O’Conner, Annette McCarthy, Siobhan Tutty Bardon, Terri O’Sullivan and Frances Clare. The workshop provided the opportunity for 60 CPC Transition years to take part in a creative and fun two days during which they all worked extremely hard. The students looked at a case study about the physical health issues facing teenagers and came up with innovative ideas using technology to address some of those issues. Each team had to pitch their idea to a panel of judges at the end of the second day. The judging panel in Kilcullen comprised Dr Deirdre Collins, James Nolan (Nolans Butchers), Barbara White (Horse Racing Ireland) and Sean Dillon (Diltek). The winning team of Robyn Kenny, Aaron McLoughlin Sutherland, Bevan Murray, Caoimhe O’Fearghaill, Godwin Jalanga and Wayne Donohoe came up with a solution for diabetics to better manage their illness through a blood glucose testing kit housed in their iPhone case supported by an App. The team produced a prototype and a website home page for their product "Bete-It". Transition Year head Glenda Groome, Vice Principle Noel Clare and Principle Catherine Moynihan as well as a number of TY teachers from CPC provided their full support to the Lions and the students to make the workshop a success for everyone involved. Kilcullen Lions Club would like to thank Tullamore Lions Club for their support in running the workshop, especially Tullamore Lion, Paul Bell.
