The Kachemak Bay Lions Club provides eye health screenings to hundreds of Homer children and adults at Paul Banks and West Homer Elementary Schools, Head Start, Safe Kids Fair and the Rotary Health Fair.  We also provide financial assistance for eye care to those in need.  We collect unused eye glasses from the community and send them off to the Lions Club recycling program for those in need elsewhere in Alaska, as well as worldwide.

We collaborate with other local organizations, individuals, and businesses to provide Thanksgiving Food Baskets to families in our community who are in need.  In 2022, we provided baskets to 193 families.  That was 670 people impacted by this project.

We partner with the South Peninsula Hospital Long Term Care Center to sponsor a Christmas Party for the residents of the facility.  We receive a gift list complied by the nurses in the facility and then purchase Christmas gifts based on the wishes of the residents.  We go to the Long Term Care Center and particpate in a Christmas Party with Lion Elves assisting Santa Claus and Mrs Claus distribute the gifts to the residents.

We annually provide scholarships for deserving high school graduates who are continuing their education at college or trade schools.

We are proud to be known as the go-to organization if you have an event that needs some grilled hot dogs.  Many groups in the Homer community have received such support from us.  Most recently we fired up our grills at the request of Kachemak City for the dedication of their new playground, HOWL’s DiRtBaG clean up at Bishop’s Beach, Paul Banks Elementary’s dedication of their new outdoor classroom, and the Pratt Museum’s cleanup day.

The Kachemak Bay Quilters were ready to retire their long heralded Quilt Show in Homer in 2021.  We seized the opportunity to carry on this beloved event with the support of area quilters who desire a venue to display their beautiful work. The event is held on Mother’s Day weekend and is widely attended by members of the community.

We support other community organizations through our volunteers participating in their fundraising projects, i.e. Christmas Red Kettle bell ringing and staffing the Thrift Store for the Salvation Army.

We are active supporters of Homer as a Coast Guard City and our USCG members.
