How our Lions Club was formed?
On August 1997, a Past President from Lioness Club of Ipoh and four (4) members from Leo Club of Ipoh feel that there is a need to set-up another new Lions Club in Ipoh to answers the unfortunate community needs, as there is a rise in population in and around Ipoh City.
An initial meeting with the sponsoring Lions club, Lions Club of Ipoh Host (which also sponsor the Lioness Club of Ipoh and Leo Club of Ipoh) led by President, Lion Dr. Enjer singh and they was agreed to sponsor the new club provided a total of 20 perspective members were found.
The search for members begins, and a total of 23 members were found in September 1977. As the sponsoring Lions club satisfied the total of prospective members, an application of the New Club was send to the Lions Clubs International and it was official accepted and chartered on 13th October, 1977.
The Charter Night was held at the Casuarina Parkroayal Hotel on 1st November 1977. Another 2 new prospective members were found during the preparation of the Charter Night and that sum up to a total of 25 members.
Members were officially inducted as members of the Lions Club of Ipoh Bougainvillea City by sponsoring Lions Club of Ipoh Host President, Lion Dr. Enjer Singh and the Board of Directors was installed into office by the Past International Director Lion Dato' Douglas K.K. Lee.
Why we named our Lions Club to be Ipoh Bougainvillaea City?
The name, Lions Club of Ipoh Bougainvillaea City was selected as the official club's name. The name of the flower Bougainvillaea was selected as it represents Ipoh City, the City of Bougainvillea.
"Bougainvillea is a shrub which can grow up to 16 feet tall. The plant has five (5) colors but the surprising thing about it is the very small flowers have no color at all but the triple leaves have transposing this fact to the Lions Club of Ipoh Bougainvillea City, it suggest that while the three (3) principle officers of the Club, like the small colorless flowers help to propagate the plant or Lionism but reall, the members, who are the leaves, are the ones who will make the plant beautiful with its color and making it acceptable to the communities in Ipoh" quoted from Lion Dato' Douglas Lee.
For the past 14 years, our developed Club is honor and proud to have served and made contributions to our community of Ipoh. The Club is lucky to be led by outstanding Lion Leaders and members, whose names are listed in our Club's Rolls of Honour.
Our Club members meet once monthly for Board and Regular on 2nd week of the month on Tuesday at Royal Ipoh Club, Ipoh, Perak, West Malaysia.
Our Club constitution & Plan of Action designed to help our Club members to focus our attention and action to make our Club strong and unity. Our intention is to make our Lions Club of Ipoh Bougainvillea City as a model Lions Club to younger generations that we are active and strong.
