Our History
The Huntersville Lions Club was founded on the 5th of February, 1951 and chartered on the first of April in that same year. The charter membership consisted of fifty-nine community, government and business leaders of the town of Huntersville, North Carolina. The club continues to thrive today as it works to serve the community.
The Community
Huntersville, N.C., is in the thriving Lake Norman area of North Mecklenburg County and is experiencing tremendous growth. With that growth comes an expanded community need for assistance to those unable, for various reasons, to help themselves
The Huntersville Lions Club, as part of the world's largest service organization – Lions International – has positioned itself to meet the needs of our growing community by raising funds which are in turn given to help those in need. We are an energetic group of men and women working to meet the needs of our community, North Carolina, our nation and the world. We proudly wear the blue and gold of Lions International!
The Lion's motto is "We Serve." The Huntersville Lions are committed to fulfilling that motto through club activities in our local community and through International Lionism.
The club has several fundraising events each year. During the winter, the club holds a community pancake breakfast. The event started as a supper and has been held annually almost as long as the club has been chartered. Later in the spring, club members work at parking cars at a Scottish festival and highland games, and help with a golf tournament. Proceeds from all fund raisers go to our project fund that supports our work with the blind and for other worthy community needs.
The club also sells brooms at several local banks and other participating businesses. In addition to the fundraisers, the club solicits used eyeglasses that are refurbished for distribution in developing countries.
