February 2021

Our February speaker was from Colorado Springs. He had served as the global director for AIDs relief program at Catholic Relief Services. Dr. Carl Stecker, RN, MPH has spent much of his life in Africa doing research on HIV/AIDs and coordinating and launching programs to provide sustainable models of medical care to treat and save lives of Africans with HIV. He reflected back on the history of HIV/AIDs. 

March 2021

In March, we hosted a guest speaker from Littleton, Colorado who is a Japanese American. Hank Wyeno spoke to us about Japanese Internment Camps during WWII.

April 2021

Tammy Turner with the Waste Trac Education Team will share a program on Waste in the Cedar Valley, touching on the topics of the Black Hawk County Landfill, waste reduction initiatives, wishcycling, and different types of composting. Ms. Turner is a UNI alum with a BA in Biology and has worked for Black Hawk County since the fall of 2007. She is an avid composter and has enjoyed introducing thousands of school children to the joys of vermicomposting (composting with red wigglers) throughout the years. Gather your recycling & composting questions and join us for this Zoom presentation.

May 2021

Iowa Representative Dave Williams will be speaking at the May 10th meeting of the Hudson Lions Club.  Dave Williams is the Ranking Member of the Information Technology Committee. He has dealt with broadband, cyber security, and state government information technology.  He pressed for legislation and administrative rules that would adapt to and keep up with rapidly developing technology.
