HOUSTON SPORTS LIONS CLUB
Community Projects
 

·        Supports Texas Lions Camp where physically handicapped and insulin dependent diabetic children learn the “can do” philosophy and are allowed to achieve maximum personal growth and self-esteem.

·        Sends eligible children to the Texas Lions Camp each year at no cost to them or their parents.

·        Provides eyeglasses for needy children, currently supporting 15 Houston Elementary Schools in this effort.

·        Supports Lions Eye Bank of Texas, which provides corneal tissue for sight restoring transplantation.

·        Supports Lions Eye Bank Foundation, which funds research of vision related matters.

·     Supports Center for Visual Rehabilitation, Cizik Low Vision Center, Univ Texas Dept of Ophthalmology and Visual Science http://www.cizikeye.org/low_vision.htm

·        Supports Lions District 2-S2 Humanitarian Relief Fund, which provides funds for disaster relief and aid to Lions clubs when providing needed humanitarian care which is beyond the means of the individual club.

·        Supports Lions Clubs International Foundation, which provides funds for disaster relief worldwide and, through its SightFirst initiative, also maintains a very successful program for sight restoration and the prevention of blindness worldwide.

·        Supports Texas Lions Foundation, which provides funds for disaster relief in Texas.

·        Supports Leader Dogs for the Blind, which provides guide dogs to improve the mobility of visually impaired people at no cost to them.

·        Supports the Lighthouse of Houston, which provides services to the visually impaired, including mobility training, vocational training and a sheltered workshop for those who need it.

·        Supports the annual Lions Christmas shopping trip for clients of the Lighthouse of Houston and other Lighthouse activities, such as the career days program for visually impaired high school students.

·        Supports the annual Christmas shopping trip for Houston Child Protective Services, as well as the annual Christmas shopping trip for Dr. Dom’s children living in various area group homes.

·        Supports a day camp for diabetic children and their siblings.

·        Supports the Lions District 2-S2 speech and hearing program, which provides assistance to needy hearing impaired children.

·        Supports Lions Quest International, which provides curricula for children in grades kindergarten through twelve to teach them a wholesome living style and aims to keep them away from drugs.

·        Collects used eyeglasses for recycling and re-use.
