Lion's Organization Projects
The Houston Founder Lions Club (HFLC) is part of a network of Lions Club Organizations. Under the large tent, HFLC is part of the very large Lions Clubs International with 1.4 million members. Each member of a Lions Club pays a portion of his/her dues to Lions International to fund Lions projects around the world. A portion of the dues paid by members of the HFLC goes to the State level for Texas projects, and another part of the dues goes to the District 2-S2, a collection of Lions Club in the Houston Area. What follows is a short description of some of the projects paid for by Lions in our club.
Lions Clubs International (LCI)
The Lions Club International Foundation is the largest LCI project. The Foundation provides funds and assistance for disaster relief for major events worldwide. They also fund construction projects for hospitals and other humanitarian projects. In addition to the Foundation, LCI also works with World Services for the Blind, Sight Conservation, Leader Dogs for the Blind, and Hearing and Speech Action.
Texas Lions Clubs (TLC)
The Lions of Texas pool their money to support some very worthwhile projects. Among them is the Texas Lions Foundation that provides funds and assistance to victims of natural disasters within the state of Texas. One of the best projects on the state level is the Texas Lions Camp for children who are physically handicapped.
District 2-S2
The clubs in the Greater Houston Area support many local projects that help the blind, the sight-impaired, and disadvantaged children. The district supports the Lions Eye Bank, a repository for eye tissues for transplants with Baylor College of Medicine. The district also helps fund the Houston Lighthouse, which provides training, education, and job placement services for the blind and vision-impaired. They also provide other assistance and services for the blind. The district supports other initiatives – for more information, click on the link below.
Our Local Club Projects
At the present, the Lions of HFLC, provides eye exams and glasses for disadvantaged children. We also give a Sportsmanship Award to High Schools who best illustrate sportsmanship during football season. Our club also supports scholarships for students who need financial aid for college.
