Meetings

Since 1917, Lions clubs have offered people the opportunity to give something back to their communities. From involving members in projects as local as cleaning up an area park or as far-reaching as bringing sight to the world's blind, Lions clubs have always embraced those committed to building a brighter future for their community.

Today with more than 46,000 clubs in 210 countries and geographical areas, Lions have expanded their focus to help meet the ever-increasing needs of our global community.
Our programs are continually changing to meet new needs and greater demands, but our mission has never wavered: "We Serve."

In 1925, Helen Keller addressed the Lions International Convention in Cedar Point, Ohio, USA. She challenged Lions to become "Knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." From that moment on, Lions clubs have been actively involved in service to the blind and visually impaired.

The Hazleton Lions Club was formed in the year of 1923. A group of young businessmen in the city of Hazleton decided it was time to do something for the community. The club obtained its charter on October 23, 1923 and never looked back. Under the leadership of Charter President Roy D. Snyder the club became a reality. Eighty nine years later it is the second oldest club in Pennsylvania District 14-W, and continues the traditions set forth by its founding fathers.

During the past years the club has excelled in many areas, we were the first club in District 14-W to elect a woman to the office of president. While now that seems like no big accomplishment, it was a major event for the district in an era where men were King Lions.

The club currently has fifteen Melvin Jones Fellows and is hoping to induct more.

We are 16 members strong, and are always eager to accept members who have humanity and community in their heart.

Over the years we have established many projects and fundraisers and have donated to many local charities and people who needed help.
