Message in a Bottle

Message in a Bottle is not solely a Lions initiative, however it is an initiative that we at Hastings Lions have taken to and recognise as a means of fulfilling our motto “We Serve”.

This scheme is free to the user. Whilst it is focused on the more vulnerable people in our community, anyone can fall downstairs, so this scheme can benefit anyone, including you. As a minimum it will save the Emergency Services valuable time identifying you and your emergency contacts. By telling whether you have special medication or allergies or not, it is a potential lifesaver and provides peace of mind to users and their friends and families.

Morrisons supermarket is Queens Road Hastings has become the latest supplier of the Lions Message In A Bottle and Message In A Wallet campaign, pictured are Lions President Brett McLean, Morrisons community champion Rosie Adams and President Elect and Message In A Bottle co-ordinator Dave Luck.

Brett said " We are extremely grateful to Morrisons for their support and thank them for becoming a message in a bottle collection point."

The Message In A Bottle and Message In A Wallet are very helpful in case a person has an injury or falls ill either inside or outside of their home, emergency services personnel are trained to look out for these items when attending a scene to help speed up the information gathering process resulting in a speedier assessment process.

To date Hastings Lions have distributed over 25,000 bottles across East Sussex.

Used Spectacle and Used Hearing Aids Project

We actively collect used spectacles and used hearing aids which we send to our colleagues at Chichester Lions Club who co-ordinate the national scheme. We have spectacle bins in Wilson Wilson & Hancock and Specsavers in Hastings, also at LG Optics at Castleham Industrial Estate and the hearing department at Conquest Hospital where you can deposit your old specs and hearing aids.

If you have any old specs or professional sight equipment you would like to donate please call Andrew Colthurst on 01424 426315 or email andrew@colthurst.co.uk
