The Lions organisation has been a part of the community since 1963 - over 60 years. The club is a locally focused volunteer service organisation committed to providing physical and financial support to the community. The club is currently undergoing a rebuild program and is seeking women and men from the Gunning District to help in continuing this support.
Lions were Formed in 1917. Our clubs are places where individuals join to give their valuable time and effort to improve their communities and the world. Over 48,000 Lions clubs with 1.4 million caring men and women serving together so they can make a lasting impact and change more lives around the world. Each Club is filled with women and men who have decided to act and serve others.
Lions have provided support over the last 60 years to areas covered by the old Gunning Shire Council including Gunning, Collector, Breadalbane, Dalton, Biala, Bevendale and Jerrawa. This included:
- Support provided to our local community included helping people in need, donating to individuals in need of support or sponsorship and sponsoring young people.
- Undertaking projects including Gunning Community Noticeboard; Gunning Markets; Gunning Lions Residential Homes; Primary Schools Public Speaking Contests; Australia Day Breakfast; ANZAC Day Gun Fire Breakfast; Driver Reviver; Mobile Caravan Catering; Fund-raising barbeques, Lions Cake Sales and pub raffles.
Members give whatever support they can provide – no matter how little. The Club recognises people have family commitment and busy schedules therefore regular attendance at Club meetings not compulsory.
