                           2021 Peace Poster Contest

The Peace Poster Competition for Gulf Shores Middle School began October 15th and 95 participants were judged on November 5th by Peace Poster Chair Lion Regina Coaker and Artist and Owner of Liquid Sunshine Gallery, Steph Barnett. All talented participants, taught by their art teacher and mentor, Mrs. Megan Michealson, submitted posters for judging based on this year's theme, "Peace Through Service''. It was very touching to walk the halls and see the beautiful displayed pieces of art these very bright and gifted students created. It was obvious they each have strong ideas of what peace means to them. How they were able to portray it to others through art was quite amazing. After much deliberation and several levels of judging, First Place cash award went to 8th grader Marlie McCartney and Second Place cash award went to 8th grader Amanda Larenas. Due to the amazing talent at Gulf Shores Middle School it was very tough to reach this decision. Out of the 95 participants, 13 Honorable Mentions were also chosen to be recognized by presenting them with certificates. Gulf Shores Middle School was presented a check and certificate for participation in the 2020-2021 Peace Poster Competition sponsored by Gulf Shores Lions Club.

1st place winner, Marlie McCartney's creation was chosen to be submitted to compete against other area talent at the district level. Congratulations and a sincere Thank you to all who took part in this wonderful and inspiring event.
