What we do:
1) The Greater Oauchita Lions Club along with the Monroe Downtown Club does Eye Screening at all Pre-K and Kindergarden and sometime third graders schools in Oauchita Parish who wish to participate. The stats includes over 50 elementary schools and over 4000 children. The screen detects lazy eye while it still can be detected and other eye ailments including deseases and potential cancers. We have 4 special cameras that cost thousands of dollars apiece and require yearly maintenance and we send the results to the Louisiana eye foundation so children who are less than optimal in their sight can get a doctors referal.
2) We feed the Homeless every fifth Friday (4 times a year). This includes bringing food for over 100 needy less fortunate folks and providing a donation to the Desaird Street Shelter where the homeless are fed. The meal always includes a meat such as baked chicken, a rice, beans or potato side, a vegetable, bread and a desert and drink. Seconds are usually always available as well.
3) We maintain 3'x5' flags (for a 50 dollar anual fee) at over 200 businesses throughout Ouachita Parish. Each flag assembly includes an 80 lb concrete base, a 8ft flag pool and a choice of an American Flag, a ULM flag or a LSU flag. Special flag options are also available upon request. The flags are display outside the business during normal business hours and the pole and flag can easily be removed from the base at night for safe keeping or left outside. Our job as Lions is to make sure your flag stays in good shape and part of the yearly fee is to replace any flag or pole as required or requested.
