"WE NEED YOU"

The Lions Club of Gerringong are currently seeking an infusion of new members. We are looking for those people who are interested in supporting their local community, both directly and indirectly through participation in this long standing service organisation, which has served the Gerringong community for 30 years. We are part of Lions Clubs International, which is the world's largest service club organisation and the only service organisation in the world to have a seat at the UN. The 1.7 million members in over 200 countries around the world are dedicated to bettering the quality of life for the handicapped, the poor, the sick, the aged and those in need. The motto of Lions Clubs International is “WE SERVE,” and Lions live this motto with enthusiasm, friendship and good fellowship.

Service with Lions is more than just sausage sizzles and raffle tickets.

In 2022 in conjunction with the Lions Australia initiative to celebrate 75 years of Lionism in Australia, Lions Club of Gerringong developed and installed a Lions Commemorative Garden on one of our scenic coastal headlands. The garden was officially opened ealy this year (2023) by Fiona Phillips MP Federal Member fo Gilmore. Also, early this year, our Return and Earn project, after just over 5 years of operation, achieved the momentus occasion of processing 1,000,000 items for recycling and earned $100,000 in the process, to assist with our service to the community and various charitable disbursements. We also run an annual MotorFest Car Show to raise funds for varying causes. This year we were able to raise $10,000 to donate to Lions Childhood Cancer Research.

Lions run the monthly free IGA BBQ, plus BBQs carried out for Australia Day, local schools, Kiama Municipal Council to name a few, along with other fundraising activities like our Mother's Day, Father's Day and Christmas raffles. Maintenance of the grounds at Boat Harbour and the Lions Whale Watching Platform continues to be ongoing, also maintenance to Aurthur Campbell Reserve and our Dune Care project. Many of the funds raised go to local needy causes, as well as aid for environmental disasters in Australia eg. drought, fires and floods, and internationally eg. famine, refugess and the war in Ukraine. Other activities include regular assistance setting up the Quilt shows at Berry and Gerringong, and manning the gates at the Kiama Sevens, the Berry Show and various other community groups assistance. We also have an active social calendar for members and partners to promote fun and fellowship within our club.
