Mid-Texas Symphany is celebrating their 47th season!
From their website "Mid-Texas Symphony was founded in 1978 by a professor of piano at Texas Lutheran University who engineered what many said was impossible. Professor Anita Windecker, a gifted pianist and passionate educator, believed that the communities of Seguin and New Braunfels could support and needed, a professional orchestra." Jason discussed their efforts to expand experiences for kids from preschool through senior year, and expanding to areas such as San Marcos and Luling in the coming years. Regina Lee with the Christian Cupboard was our guest speaker this morning and we were so happy to visit with her! Thank you Regina for coming out in the downpour to share Christian Cupboard's story and mission with us.

GLC visited with Robin Evans of Seguin Christian Academy this morning at our 6:30am Thursday meeting. Seguin Christian Academy was formed in 2012 and teaches children Kinder - 6th grade. They focus on teaching good values, are family oriented and have small classes. They are tuition based and have after school care available.

GLC welcomed the Branch Director for Comal/Guadalupe & Texas Hill Country Big Brothers Big Sisters as our guest speaker this morning! Rianne Sykes-Wenske, we enjoyed learning about your organization and all you and your volunteers do to help mentor the young people of our county and surrounding areas.
Some things we learned: They offer training and match support for volunteers. They meet with the volunteers frequently to check in on how things are going. They care about building relationships for children who may need that extra support.
Thank you again Rianne for spending the morning with our crazy bunch. We really enjoyed meeting you.

Good Morning! We were blessed to have Landry Engler visit with us this morning. Landry will be going on a 9 month World Race Mission Trip - going to 3 different countries spending 3 months in each! She will be on a team with up to 50 people working in orphanages, building, teaching, and ministering as they travel.

Past District Governor Ron Heinemeyer performed the induction ceremony centered around the parts of a bike how they all work together to make it a successful efficient machine. The theme was picked due to the clubs recent decision to once again sponsor The Tour De Pecan bike ride that is part of the Seguin Pecan Fest Celebration in October

Geronimo Lions Club enjoyed a visit from Treva Hicks with the Master Gardeners of Guadalupe County. The Master Gardeners are an awesome source for information related to plants, gardens and various pest control methods. They have very talented speakers that can visit your club or organization to help you plan a successful gardening adventure. They also have a regular program on KWED Radio.

Native Plant Society - Kathryn Berch
Kathryn Berch presented a very colorful and historical program on the use of Native Texas Plants and how to reintroduce them into your yard. Native plants use less water and are better suited to our region then exotic or introduced species. Native plants come in a variety of colors and sizes that will fit almost all landscaping needs and many are naturally deer and insect resistant. Another benefit is that native plants provide food for Monarch Butterflies as well as other pollinators such as bees. Many local nurseries stock native plants so visit one soon to reintroduce hearty native plants to your landscape.
Guadalupe County Crime Stoppers
Ken Kiel and Dawn Southwell presented an interesting and insightful program on the Guadalupe County Crime Stoppers Program at our February 18th meeting. The Geronimo Lions meet on the first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 am at the Red Barn where we have interesting and knowledgeable speakers bring us up to date on local events and organizations. The Geronimo Lions Club had as a guest speaker Laura Torres, Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator with CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates. This organization covers four(4) counties. Guadalupe County is low in volunteers, so if you are interested contact either office in New Braunfels or San Marcos.

The Geronimo Lions Club hosted speaker Brian Wallace who is the owner of the Seguin Brewing Company at our November 19th meeting. Yet another Seguin success story keeping business here at home. Their product can be found in this area with plans to expand. We enjoyed learning the process of making craft beer.
