Hutton Lane Pocket Park, Malaysia
International President Sid L. Scruggs III and First Lady Judy unveil the Hutton Lane Pocket Park in Malaysia. The project gives seniors and children a place for recreation in the heart of the city
This has been an incredible year to serve as your International President. An interesting environmental project I had the honor of unveiling was the Hutton Lane Pocket Park in Malaysia. This was just one of the many projects Lions put together during April’s Protecting our Environment Global Service Action Campaign, the final initiative of my presidency.
The Georgetown Lions Club converted a parking lot in the heart of the city into a modest park featuring a swing set, modified basketball court, trees planted in concrete containers and benches. Using just a small patch of land, Lions created an oasis complete with recreation, shade trees and flowering plants in a clustered area. Judy and I were impressed with this project because it showed Lions are interested in beautification and ecology, and also in providing a safe place for seniors and young people to experience nature.
In this video, you’ll see the park’s grand opening.
