Meetings

The members of the Gallipolis Lions Club are proud to spend our time, talent and treasure on helping those in need in the following ways:

Eyeglass Collection The Gallipolis Lions Club collects used eyeglasses in order to recycle them for use in developing countries where eyecare and access to glasses is extremely limited. We have collection boxes in a variety of places around town.

Why do we send the glasses to foreign countries and not give them to the needy in America? Because it is illegal in the US to give someone the prescription of someone else.

Charities and People We Support Our club donates annually to a variety of good causes, including:

  • Lions Pilot Dogs
  • Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation
  • Diabetes Association
  • Lions Eye Research
  • Ohio Lions Foundation
  • Lions Clubs International Foundation
  • Pediatric Cancer Research
  • Elks Youth League
  • Local Food Pantry
  • Local families in need
  • Many other great organizations.

Eye Exams & Glasses We purchase numerous eye exams and eyeglasses each year for local citizens who cannot afford them. For information on how to get assistance with eye exams and eye glasses, contact Cathy Greenleaf  at 740-645-8709 or Ollie Tipple at 740-645-1616.

Veterans - We place flags throughout the community on patriotic holidays. We also join the Veterans in the City Park on November 11 to help honor all our veterans. We serve free coffee and cookies to everyone at the ceremony.

Youth - We support the youth of the community through the following projects:

Kids' Christmas - Our biggest project of the year comes at Christmas time. Law Enforcement Officers from the Gallipolis City Police and the Gallia County Sheriff's Office do a hat drive to collect money to buy Christmas presents for over 100 needy children in our county. Along with their help and the help of our Leo Clubs, we shop for the kids, wrap the gilfts, amd provide a pizza party for the kids and their families.

Leo Clubs - We sponsor Leo Clubs at River Valley High School and South Gallia High School. Membership in these Leo Clubs provides the high school students with an opportunity to develope leadership skills while providing service to their communities.

Kids Day in the Park - During the River Rec Festival in the City Park, the Gsllipolis Lions hold turtle races, frog jumping contests, and sack races. The competition is always fierce and all ages are welcome to participate.

Little Miss/Little Mister Pageant - Since 1958, the Gallipolis Lions Club has been conducting a Little Miss/Little Mister Gallia County pageant at the Gallia County Fair. All 6 and 7 year olds from Gallia county are welcome to compete. The Little Miss amd Little Mister selected will reign over fair activites that week and represent the pageant in parades all year long.
