Currently, we are earning money for the entrance signs to the City via Highway 12. Our location on the Scenic byway gives us lots of opportunity to share our heritage through great new signs. The best part of this project is the cooperation between the Escalante Lions Club and the Potato Valley Lions Club. Two clubs in a town of 950. Both signs will have the international logo and each club will pay for one sign. How can it get better than that? Watch the gallery for pictures of the progress.
We are building our July 4th celebration "Art In The Park" into an annual event. We've done our world famous chicken dinner two years and we'll add an art market and childrens art in the park to the event. We've paid for the fireworks for 2010 and we're about to add an opening 5K run in honor of our "Superhero" Clayte Durfey who passed away from cancer last year at the age of 15.
We'll be donating all the proceeds from the childrens art in the park to the summer children's reading program to the Garfield County Library - Escalante Branch. Parents run the program and these funds should pay for their supplies.
And we're working on identifying the needs of the visually impaired in our city. We'll post the projects we adopt when we get the assesment phase completed.
