About The Emmett Lions Club
The Emmett Lions have been serving our community since 1933. Our charter president was an employee at Safeway grocery store who went on to found his own chain, yes it was Joe Albertson. He and several other business men and a doctor or two wanted to charter a Boy Scout of America Troop. That troop has been active since 1933, Troop 323.
Another person who has had an impact on the lives of may who live here in Emmett is Helen Keller. How has she affected people here you may ask? In 1925 at the convention of the International Association of Lions Clubs she challenged our organization to be "Knights of the Blind" and to help end blindness. That has been a major thrust for lions world wide since, and many people in Emmett have had their eyes examined and received glasses free of charge when there is a financial need. We also screen every school age child we can for vision problems and refer those that need it for an eye care professional to examine their eyes. We can also pay for some of them is there is a financial need as well.
All of the community service projects we do throughout the Emmett Community is due to the Emmett Show and Shine every year in July. It is amazing that we are able to raise enough money to do all of the things we do in our community from a free car show. Well it isn't all free, we do sell about 1200 pancake breakfasts and about the same number of hamburgers or hot dog lunches, so it keeps our members busy cooking.
So what is it we have done and continue to do on a regular basis?
