Responding to community needs, Westbay Marketplace with the assistance of Plates with Purpose, and the Scituate and East Greenwich Lions Clubs, gave out 100 ready-to-eat meals, 230 boxes of food, 230 boxes of household products (from paper towels to laundry detergent) on Saturday morning (March 27, 2021), from the marketplace on Jefferson Boulevard. Plates with a Purpose has been raising funds that it, in turn, uses to buy meals from restaurants impacted by the pandemic. In this case Iggy’s prepared the bagged meals that included sandwiches. Members of the two Lions Clubs boxed the food and household products in preparation for distribution as well as assisting on Saturday. The food and household products were provided through donations from the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, local drives and by corporate supporters. Paul Salera, executive director of Westbay Community Action, aims to make the drive-through pantry a quarterly event.
