Please Visit the Douglas County Lions Club
The Douglas County Lions Club received their Charter from Lions International in July of 1922, when the town of Castle Rock had an estimated population of 3,000: today Castle Rock is just above 48,000 people. Lions was the first "service club" to organize here. Over these past years, they have lived up to the Lions' Motto of "WE SERVE;" however, we will only list some of today's events, which are helping the less fortunate.
1) Screen annually 1,000 preschool children, with a digital camera that identifies eight possible eye problems.
2) Collect 500 pair of "used eye glasses" each month, which are cleaned and the prescriptions read prior to shipping into Third World Countries.
3) Pay for eye exams and purchase four sets of eyeglasses each month for referrals from both the local task force and the public school system.
4) Award four $1,000 HS scholarships to graduating seniors.
5) Purchase $25 gift cards for teenages, distributed at Christmas by the Douglas-Elbert Task Force
6) Act as "money managers' for the an.nual 9Health Fair, where attendance exceeds 1,000; testing of blood for over thirty items cost only $35.00.
