The Light in the Dark

In a small, quiet village, there lived an elderly man named Rahat. Though he had very little money and lived in a simple mud house, he possessed a heart full of compassion. Every day, he walked through the village with a small wooden bag, helping anyone in need—whether it was repairing a neighbor's broken fence, sharing his meal with a stray animal, or comforting a sick child.

One cold, rainy evening, a young traveler named Arin arrived in the village. His car had broken down, his phone battery was dead, and he was soaked to the bone. Exhausted and desperate, Arin knocked on several doors asking for help, but people turned him away, suspicious of a stranger.

Finally, Arin reached Rahat’s doorstep. Without asking who he was or where he came from, Rahat opened the door, invited him inside, and handed him a dry towel and a warm cup of tea. He cooked a hot meal and shared half of his modest dinner with Arin.

Touched by the old man's selflessness, Arin asked, "You don't even know me. Why are you doing all this for a stranger without asking for anything in return?"

Rahat smiled gently and replied, "Serving humanity is not a transaction; it is our duty. When you help someone in distress, you don't just light up their life—you light up your own."

The next morning, Arin left the village with a renewed heart, promising himself that he, too, would dedicate a part of his life to serving others.
