General Meeting
Lion Austin called the meeting to order and led the club in the flag salute before giving the invocation.
Lion K.J. motioned to approve the minutes of the December 11th meeting with one change regarding the KU Audio Reader donation being $75. Lion Jean seconded the motion with all members present being in favor.
Tail Twister – Lion Frank asked members to wear sequins in honor of Elvis’ birthday this week.
Program
No Program – Since a Program was not secured this month, members discussed topics we’d like to focus on for Programs. The 5 topics LCI focuses on is Vision, Diabetes, Environment, Childhood Cancer, and Hunger. We’d like to focus our Program efforts in these areas as well. Members signed up for the remaining months of the 2019-2020 year. Since we will be delivering boxes and picking up items for the Food Drive, we decided against having a March 11th Program. And we’ll spend our June 10th meeting getting ready for the BBQ Fest instead of a Program that month as well. Some ideas for future programs were to have some of the students we’ve given money to like Mallory Troyer (SVOSH) and the 2019 150th Scholarship winner.
New Business
Lions Scholarship 2020 – Lion Susan drafted up a scholarship form draft available for members to look at and discuss. We decided to allow seniors within USD 260 boundaries to apply. We will need to spend more effort to advertise the scholarship since we are not tied to the 150th celebration this year. Members present were okay with boosting the post on Facebook within the 67037 zip code for a small (~$10) fee. We’ll have to upload the form on Facebook and our website for students to download. Another option might be to upload it to Google Drive and put the link on the Facebook page. It would be a good idea to contact Jeff Cott with the Derby Informer. There was some question on whether we would need/want to have a presentation at the High School.
Donation Request – Women’s Shelter (Grace Multiplied) There was some discussion on having them present at a future meeting.
Hearing Life – We had a request from Hearing Life to come to a future meeting to do a Program. They do have Derby locations and offer free hearing screenings. The club decided against accepting the request as it felt to be more of a sales pitch and also not fall into one of our 5 topics of focus with Programs.
Current Business
USD 260 / Chamber of Commerce Food Drive Participation – Lion K.J. talked to Mark Staats on how to help or how we can get involved. Mark has lots of the Derby Monopoly boxes available to convert into food collection boxes. Lions will drop off the boxes to local businesses the week of March 8th and pick them up Friday, March 13th to be delivered to a USD 260 drop off location. We still need to finalize a sign to add to the boxes and have extras printed up for businesses to put on their doors/windows

the next Chamber event and ask if local businesses would like to sign up to have a box at their location.
Lions Hosting Chamber of Commerce After Hours in Feb 2020 – Committee members agreed to meet up at Los Cocos on Tuesday, Jan 14th at 7:00 PM. They will discuss what they have gathered for their designated assignments thus far and any ideas they have for each other. They will also come to the January 22nd Board meeting with a budget request.

Lions Hosting Chamber of Commerce After-Hours in Feb 2020 – The event will take place from 4:30 – 6:30 that evening. We should plan to be there about 4:00 until about 7:00 to help set up and clean up. We plan to serve beer, wine, and snack food. And will have a slide show with pictures of our 10 years serving the community and some statistics on how we have contributed. We still need to come up with a budget. The committee will figure this out and come back for approval. The following members volunteered to be on the Committee for this event: Lions Austin, Jean, K.J., Charissima, Stephanie, and guest Lindsey Dearduff. Lions Austin and K.J. will be in charge of beverages, Lion Jean and Lindsey will be in charge of food, and Lions Stephanie and Charissima will be in charge of getting a slide show and statistics to have on the tables.
