Meetings

Lions International:

In 1917, Melvin Jones, a Chicago business leader, told members of his local business club they should reach beyond business issues and address the betterment of their communities and the world. Jones' group, the Business Circle of Chicago, agreed. Later that year an organizational meeting was held joining similar groups around the United States and what was to become Lions International was formed.  In 1925 Helen Keller addressed the Lions Clubs International Convention in Cedar Point, Ohio, and challenged the Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness."

Dansville Lions Club:

Born in 1941 we are fifty men and women working together to live up to the Lions Motto:  "We Serve". Our primary focus is sight and giving back to the community while having fun.

Primary Activities:

SEE (Screening Eyes Early): A joint effort of the Dansville and Canaseraga Lions and Lionesses targeting under 6 year olds. Started in Canaseraga and Dansville schools in 2006, we now are screening in Arkport, Dalton, Wayland, Pavilion, Mt. Morris, and numerous Daycare and Headstart programs.  Since 2006 we have screened over 1000 children and referred over 80 to specialists.

Help out with eye exams and glasses for those in need.

We also contribute to a wide variety of charitable and local community based operations:  We are founding members of the Little League and Dogwood Festival, we support the Food Pantry, Music in the Park, Easter Egg Hunt in Stony Brook Park, Class Blast, the American Red Cross, and the Finger Lakes Hearing Foundation to name a few.

Fundraisers:

All of the money we raise stays in our community.  Local, State, and International dues are paid out of our pockets.
