Dalbeattie and District Lions Club was formed in 1988 aimed at helping other people less fortunate than themselves, in keeping with the objective of Lions Clubs International. Since their formation the club has donated over £284,00 to local, national and international causes and charities. The club currently has 5 members and meets once a month at The King's Arms Hotel on the 1st Tuesday of each month.
We are part of Lions Clubs International and since our formation we have helped fund numerous Lions welfare projects including Youth Football, Water Well Appeals, International Eye Camps and responded to international disaster appeals through Lions Clubs International. Closer to home we award annual Citizenship Awards to pupils of Dalbeattie Primary & High Schools and finance an annual Community Award at St Peters R.C. Primary School . Each Christmas we donate gifts to all the elderly residents of the homes and hospital in our area and also tour the town with our Santa Sleigh handing out goodies to the local children.
Our main FUNdraising is through our very popular and successful Charity Shop in Mill Street Dalbeattie and this currently finances our welfare work. For over 20 years we had organised the May Day event in Colliston Park, Dalbeattie which was always well attended, held 'Mile of Pennies' fundraisers in the High Sreet and numerous other activities. We are always looking for new ideas to raise the profile of Lions Clubs generally.
Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
