CHARITABLE GIVING
We are proud to have given out almost $200,000 in scholarships over the last 36 years in the name of the Coventry-West Greenwich Lions Club. Each year the Club presents scholarships to graduating seniors from Coventry High School and Exeter-West Greenwich High School. Club scholarship donations at Coventry High School are doubled thanks to the matching program from the Coventry Teachers Alliance Local 1075. Interested students may apply through the Guidance Department at their respective high school.
Some of the other charitable organizations supported by our club include:
- RI Lions Sight Foundation (helps to fund camps and an adult fishing trip and rowing program for the visually impaired). RILSF is a 501 C-3 non-profit organizations that has provided assistance to visually impaired persons in our Rhode Island communities since it was founded in 1961. The assistance provided can be financial, material, social and develomental and includes support for programs like Vision Pre-Screening, Camp Mauchatea residential winter and summer programming for children with vision impairments, and the Visually Impaired Persons (VIP) Fishing Tournament.
- RI Lions Cancer in Childrens Fund thru Hasbro (helps to fund babysitting and family expenses like gas while children are being treated at Hasbro Children's Hospital and provides gift cards to those families at Christmas)
- Vision Screening Local club members work with the Rhode Island Sight Foundation to assist in vision screening of students by request from school nurses.
