CONCORDIA LIONS CLUB CELEBRATES 85 YEARS OF SERVICE!
The Concordia Lions Club celebrated its 85-year anniversary by serving in the concession stand at the Broadway Plaza Movie and Concert Series on July 27, 2023. Thank you to the Broadway Plaza and the community members who attended to celebrate this milestone with our club!
The Concordia Lions Club was chartered in 1938, and for the past 85 years its members have faithfully served the local community through many beneficial projects. One such project is the Cloud County Community Suppers, a free meal for anyone in the community. This takes place at the Kansas National Guard Armory on the first and second Wednesday of each month from 5-6 pm, and is available by curbside pickup. Everyone is welcome! Another ongoing project is the annual Tree Planting. For over a decade, the Concordia Lions Club planted trees at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in an effort to replace numerous trees that were destroyed in a wind storm years ago. Now that this project has been completed, trees are being planted each year in various locations throughout the community. This past year, two trees were planted at the Concordia Sports Complex. Other projects include managing the Fall Fest parade, sponsoring a Pee Wee Baseball team and assisting with eye exams and glasses for youth in the community. Concordia Lions can also be found delivering Meals on Wheels in the community each week, assisting with the annual NCKDSS Buddy Walk, and delivering flowers on Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day for the Flower Gallery. The Concordia Lions Club also gives back to the community by way of donations to various service projects and community needs. The motto for Lions is “We Serve”, and the Concordia Lions Club has a proud legacy of serving the community by addressing each of the five service areas that Lions are challenged to focus on; youth, vision, hunger, environment, and diabetes.
According to Jennie Thrash, President of the Concordia Lions Club, “We are proud of our club’s 85 years of service to the community, and for our anniversary this year we want to honor our legacy members and those who have gone before us. We also want to thank everyone who partners with us on our service projects. You are truly helping Lions to make a difference in our community.”
The Concordia Lions Club has 31 members and meets on the first and third Thursday each month at noon at the North Central Kansas Medical Center. Lions Clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.
