COLUMBUS LIONS CLUB - PROJECTS

We actively support the many services provided by both the Lions Club International Foundation and North Carolina Lions Inc., which are both registered as tax-exempt, charitable organizations.  Our donations to these organizations are used for the research into visual diseases and the care and treatment of those visually impaired.

One of our main missions is to help pay for the expenses to obtain eye professional examinations and if necessary obtain glasses, for those people in Polk County unable to afford these costs.

All Lions Clubs welcome the donation of used eyeglasses.  The glasses are refurbished and given to people around the world who need them.  Eyeglass collection boxes are located in several businesses throughout Polk County.

We visit all registered visually impaired people (VIP’s) during their birthday months, taking gifts for their enjoyment.  Each Christmas season we again visit them with food vouchers and other gifts so they may enjoy this special holiday.

We financially support the North Carolina Visually Impaired Persons State and National Fishing Tournament that attracts over 500 blind and visually impaired people, along with their guests, ages 12 to 91 to the Outer Banks. The tournament which draws people from 77 counties is the largest gathering of blind and visually impaired people in North Carolina.

As a Lions Club in North Carolina we financially support the Marjorie McCune Memorial Center in Ashville, NC. The Marjorie McCune Memorial Center is a licensed Adult Care Home owned and operated by the Lions of Western North Carolina. Located in Black Mountain, North Carolina.   Again at Christmas time we provide their residents with gifts for their comfort and needs.

Again, our club supports Camp Dogwood – which since 1967, Camp Dogwood for the Blind & Visually Impaired has been a beacon of service to citizens from all over North Carolina. This summer destination provides a wonderful and therapeutic vacation retreat for persons with blindness and visual impairment.
