PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Greetings,

First and foremost, I want to wish all of you a very happy and healthy new year.

I know that way to many of our club members are being challenged with health issues. You are a very strong and courageous group. I think about you often and I want you to know that you are always in my thoughts and prayers. If you have a need that you think the club might be able to help you with, please do not hesitate to ask. We will do our best to help.

Thanks to everyone for all your work on our fall projects. It is, as you know, just the beginning!

We start with the Pinewood Derby. This is an event of the Columbia Scouts that we support. It is a lot of fun. I hope that you’ll come out to Yeoman’s Hall on Saturday, February 8, and support this event.

Spring and Summer projects are a lot of fun and keep us busy. The Pancake Breakfast in March - It won’t be long before it is here! Almost a third of our profits come from our Silent Auction. If all of us can solicit 2 businesses and donate any new/slightly used items you are not using at home (you don’t like it, your spouse doesn’t like it, it is not the right color, have to many of them, needs to be re gifted or any other reason), we will have a great auction and good results.

In my book, there is always room for golf and in our club June is our Golf for Charity Fundraising event. What a good time this is.

July is the time for one of my favorites, the 4th of July parade. This is one of our best gifts to our community. It is an unbelievably terrific, and I dare say, best in state parade. What a great give back to the community this is.

Our Scholarship Raffle starts in August and ends with the winners drawing in front of Yeoman’s hall in November. We really need your help on this one. The revenue from raffle ticket sales has been declining over the past several years, putting in danger the number of scholarships that we can provide. Please help us make this one of the best years for our scholarship raffle by selling as many tickets as you can and working our ticket sales events at Ted’s and the Columbia Transfer Station.

Another best in show in August is the delicious, Lions Chicken BBQ. Just thinking about how good that chicken tastes makes me hungry. Last year was a banner year for us. We sold out of chickens. Let do it again this year!

So looks like another great year of events and I’m looking forward to it.
