We have just stepped into our 60th year of service with the promise of living up to our motto 'We Serve' We will continue with our biggest service project to date, the Hope for Children project and have embarked on yet another project that would provide over 70 families in rural Sri Lanka with pipe borne water. We will continue to support our long standing continuous projects of sponsoring the Sewing School for underprivileged girls and the pride of our club; the Leo Club of Colombo Host.
Later projects included the first Eye Bank in Sri Lanka, gifted to the National Eye Hospital in 1962. It was later supplemented by the Eye Bank of the Eye Donation Society organized by the late Lion Dr. Hudson Silva and developed into an internationally renowned Cornea Resource. Other early projects were the inauguration of a weekly Medical Clinic staffed by the doctor members of the Club, assisted by lay members.
The Lion Ladies have always been the backbone of our club their strong and silent support has not only given our club a firm grounding to move forward, they have also been the main fundraisers. ‘Eve’ (coffee morning) was the signature project of the Lions Ladies of Colombo Host that raised much needed funds to our coffers. Over time they orgainsed several Christmas/ Avurudu Sale and last year organized the much publicized Car Boot Sale, the first of it’s kind to be held in Colombo.
As we step into our 60th year, we are fully aware that our work is yet not done ! We march forward with a purpose keeping in mind the changing landscape of Lions Service in the next century.
