The Coloma Lions Club, a chapter of Lions International, is a local non-profit community service organization dedicated to serving our community. Members (Lions and Leos) are men and women who volunteer their time to humanitarian causes in their local and world communities. By conducting service projects and raising funds, we strive to help those in need, wherever need exists.
At the heart of everything we do are the values that inspire our service and the people who serve. The six core values listed below represent the spirit that drives us—and our mission—forward.
- Commitment to service - We are responsive to the needs of our communities and the world we share. We seek to bring positive change to the people we serve and the places we call home.
- Dedication to Excellence - We are passionate about the causes we serve and the difference we are making together. We strive for excellence, and we measure it by every community we impact and every life we touch.
- Appreciation for Diversity - We believe that diversity is our strength, and it starts with fostering understanding, appreciating our differences, and valuing our unique talents and experiences. We know we can better serve the world when we embrace everyone, because together we are more.
- Dynamic Collaboration - We work as a team to solve problems, meet challenges and bring our service to life. We thrive by collaborating with our communities, local and global partners, and everyone with a heart for service.
- Personal and Professional Integrity - We promote and live by the principles of good citizenship. We are dependable, trustworthy and accountable for our actions and their results.
- Spirit of Innovation - We evolve to meet the changing needs of those we serve, embracing growth and creativity. We embrace new ideas, best practices and continual improvement.
In addition to the local projects listed on the Club Projects page, the Coloma Lions Club also supports these State and National projects:
- Wisconsin Lions Foundation
- Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin
- Leader Dogs for the Blind
- Collecting used eyeglasses and hearing aids
People in the community frequently ask members what the Lions do with all of the money they raise. A 25 foot by 6-foot banner hangs in the park during each Chicken Chew listing all the ways that the “Coloma Lions Support Our Community.” People are amazed when they see what the Lions have done over the years for the community.
The Coloma Lions Club also works to support its parent organization’s global causes of:
- Childhood cancer - We provide support for the needs of children and families affected by childhood cancer.
- Diabetes - We work to reduce the prevalence of diabetes and improve quality of life for those living with diabetes.
- Disaster relief - We take steps to meet immediate needs and provide long-term support for communities devastated by natural disasters.
- Environment - We find ways to protect the environment to create healthier communities and a more sustainable world.
- Humanitarian - We identify the world’s most crucial needs and provide humanitarian aid where it’s needed most.
- Hunger - We strive to improve food security and access to nutritious food to help alleviate hunger.
- Vision - We help prevent avoidable blindness and improve quality of life for people who are blind or visually impaired.
- Youth - We support young people so they can make positive choices, lead healthy and productive lives, and become the next generation of service leaders.
- Mental Health and Well-Being - Lions and Leos are shining a light on mental health and well-being by raising awareness, serving their communities and advocating for positive change.
- Recovery for disaster victims - When a major catastrophe strikes, Lions are often among the first to respond and the last to leave. Our Disaster Relief Fund helps make sure we're there when we're needed.
- Humanitarian crisis in Ukraine - Whether supporting refugees escaping the war or providing aid to citizens remaining in the country, LCIF grants directly benefit Ukrainians in need.
- Sight For Kids - LCIF and Johnson & Johnson Vision co-founded Sight For Kids to mobilize Lions and eye care professionals to provide eye health services in underserved communities around the world.
Lions club members are your neighbors striving to improve their local community and make a difference. Each person brings their own set of skills and available time to volunteer where and when they can. There are no expectations as to how much a member needs to volunteer. All that is asked is that they help out where they can. We would love to have anyone who is interested in helping the community by joining the club or making a donation reach out to us via the "Contact Us" page.
Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
