The journey to the "green world" started at 10.00am on 23rd Nov 2011. President Ln. Virumandi & Family, Secretary Ln. M. Shreejawahar & Family, Treasurer Ln. Jayakumar & Family, IPP Ln. Santhanam, Ln. Ramalingam & Family, Ln. Jayapal, Ln. Elango & Ln. Murali started the trip to Cheyyar - a place located about 110 kms from Chennai to contribute their part to the green world. May be the secretary thought the lions need some refreshment before the activity and hence distributed tea & sundal in the van, while travelling. He has organized & sponsored the whole event, including the saplings. In total, about 225 saplings were planted in an area of 1.25 acres, owned by the secretary. He also personally organized homemade lunch for all the lions. After a simple yet tasty homemade food and a little rest, the team drove back to the city with another hot cup of tea on their way back. The trip was more of a family get-together but with a noble purpose! At the end of the trip, a satisfaction of giving something back to the ‘mother earth’ overrode the joy of having fun filled trip.
Mission to Plant 1 Million Trees

As part of creating Guinness Record and Limca Book of Records in planning 10,00,000 trees across the world on 24th Aug 2011, an effort taken by the International President of Lions Club International – Lion Wing-Kun Tam, PMJF Lion D. Sridharan – District Governor has committed to plant 50,000 saplings today. To honour the committement of the DG and to help mother nature, Lions Club of Lakshmipuram has planted saplings early this morning in Chennai Sanatorium area. The District Chair Person Ln.Mahendran,ZCP Ln. R. Ramesh was the Chief Guest who planted the first sapling. The President and Secretary of Lions Club of Lakshmipuram along with the Counselor of their ward Mr. Ramalingam and other residents of the area planted the trees and requested co-operation of the residents in maintaining the trees. Many of the residents have eagerly accepted to maintain trees planted in front of their houses. Another helping hand in saving environment!!

On 3rd September 2011, Ln. Shreejawahar, Secretary, sponsored dinner for poor children on a family occassion. ZCP Ln. Ramesh, who is always interested in such services was present right from the beginning and enjoyed serving food and chatting with the children. The Secretary and Ln. Virumandi - President participated in the occassion along with their family members. Past President Ln. Santhanam was also present and actively involved. The get-together with the innocent children brought smiles on everyone's face!
