LIONS CLUB OF CHAVAKKAD WAS ESTABLISHED IN THE YEAR OF 1983 AND CHARTERED ON 20-06-1983. ON THOSE YEARS LIONS CLUBS WERE NOT IN COMMON ESPECIALY IN THE COASTAL AREAS OF THRISSUR DIST. THIS CLUB WAS PART OF THE UNDIVIDED LIONS DISTRICT COMPRISING REVENUE DISTRICTS FROM THRISSUR TO KASARAGOD. IN THE YEAR OF 1992 WE SPONSORED A NEW CLUB AT GURUVAYOOR . THAT WAS CHARTERED ON 28-10-1992.CHAVAKKAD LIONS CLUB COULD EXTEND LIONISM IN AND AROUD THIS DISTRICT, PARTICULARLY AT PERMBILAVU, PONNANI, PAZHUVIL GREENFIELD AND AYYANTHOLE BY FORMING NEW CLUBS.
The Lions Movement in Kerala is a part of the larger Lions Clubs International, which is one of the world's largest service organizations. This movement focuses on a wide range of humanitarian efforts and community services, aligning with the global mission of Lions Clubs to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace, and promote international understanding.
1. Service Projects: Lions Club Chavakkad engage in various service projects such as health camps, blood donation drives, eye care initiatives, disaster relief efforts, and environmental conservation projects. These projects are aimed at addressing the immediate needs of the community and improving the quality of life for the underprivileged.
2. Eye Care Initiatives: One of the flagship projects of the Lions Movement worldwide is Sight First, which aims to prevent avoidable blindness and improve sight. A number of eye camps were conducted, providing free eye check-ups, surgeries, and distributing spectacles to those in need.
3. Youth Programs: The movement places a strong emphasis on youth development through initiatives like the Leo Clubs, which are youth branches of the Lions Clubs. These programs focus on leadership development, community service, and personal growth for young individuals.
4. Educational Support: Lions Clubs in Kerala also support education through scholarships, building and renovating schools, and providing educational materials to students. This helps in promoting literacy and empowering the youth with better opportunities for their future.
5. Disaster Relief: Our Coastal area being prone to natural disasters like floods, has seen significant contributions from the Club in terms of disaster relief. Lions members actively participate in rescue operations, provide food, clothing and work on rehabilitation projects for the affected communities.
6. Health and Wellness: Beyond eye care, Lions Club focus on general health and wellness programs. This includes organizing medical camps, awareness campaigns on diseases like diabetes, cancer, and HIV/AIDS, and supporting local healthcare facilities with necessary equipment and resources. Our members were so dedicated and were in the front line during the COVID Pandemic which was well appreciated by the Governmental authorities and accepted by the public in general.
7. Environmental Conservation: The Lions Movement also emphasizes environmental sustainability. Projects include tree plantation drives, cleaning up local water bodies, and promoting awareness about environmental protection and waste management.
8. Community Development: Various community development projects are undertaken to improve infrastructure, provide clean drinking water, and enhance sanitation facilities. These efforts are aimed at creating a more sustainable and healthy living environment for the residents.
Through consistent efforts and a strong network of volunteers, We continues to contribute significantly to the social and economic development of the region, embodying the motto of Lions Clubs International: "We Serve."
