CHARLESTON LIONS CLUB MEETINGS

Regular scheduled meetings are held on the 1st Thursday of each month at Shoney's on the Boulevard. Meetings start at Noon and we would love to have anyone interested in joining the Lions club to sit in on our club meeting and have lunch with us.

During our lunch meetings we generally invite guest speakers to join us and fill us in on activities, programs or important issues that are happening in our Community.  Here are some of our past guests that have joined us for lunch;

Terry Cyfers from the WV Small Business Development Center. He  described their programs to assist small businesses.

Lion Jason Conley presented the history of Lionism and our Club's work in assisting with eye care in WV. He had news clippings of pictures, decades old, of him and other Lions involved in creating the WV Medical Eyebank and other organizations that have bcome so important in providing eye care.

Alice Riecks from the Kanawha County Library system and Stephanie Johnson of the West Side Main Street program. She recounted accomplishments of the program in recent months and announced the merger of the West Side program with the East Side Main Street program. Breaking news at your Lions Club.

Marie Beaver, executive director of REA of Hope. REA provides housing and rehabilation services to women with a variety of problems.

Megan Cutlip of The Foundation for Thomas Memorial and St Francis, She has a very interesting story of their activities to benefit the community with health care services

Mike Zwier with the National Weather Association reported on the nature of weather reporting in our area and explained the meaning of the word "meteorologist".  A very interesting discussion.

Tony DeMeo. Most of us know Tony as the retired coach of the University of Charleston football team. Under his six year leadership DeMeo has the most wins of any coach in UC history. After coaching for 25 years DeMeo has begun a new career, writing. He came to talk about his new book on what things you can do to become a better leader in your organization.

Tim Mueller the general manager of the West Virginia Power single A baseball team (Pittsbugh Pirates farm team) was on hand to discus the daily life of farm team baseball players and the Pirates organization. Good luck to all the minor league players in their careers and dreams to make it to the big leagues.
