Club Accomplishments

Casa Grande Lions have been doing vision screening in the surrounding area for the last two years.  We screened about 4,600 people last year. This school year, we have done over 9,232.  In order to do this, we bought a Spot Machine with a grant from Tohono O’odham Nation last year. Our club borrowed a machine from the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation. This year we knew that the Sight and Hearing might ask for it back and we needed two machines in order to do each school that we screen.  Thanks to Pinal 40, who gave us a grant of $2,500 to get us started on purchasing our second machine. Each machine cost $7,000.  Serving in our community is very important and helping out our children of the future.

Eye exams for children are extremely important. Experts say 5% to 10% of pre-schoolers and 25% of school-aged children have vision problems. Early identification of a child's vision problem is crucial because, if left untreated, some childhood vision problems can cause permanent vision loss.

Vision screening is important to identify students that have vision problems. Once a student is referred, it’s important that they see an eye doctor for an eye exam. If the determination is made by their eye doctor, that they have a correctable condition then it’s very important that the child receive eyeglasses to allow them able to see clearly.

We have seven Arizona state certified vison screeners in our club and two of these seven are Lions Kids Sight certified.

If you are interested in volunteering, donating or helping with our vision screening program or have questions, please contact the Casa Grande Lions Club Vision Coordinator, Cheryl Seat at 520-858-9777.
