Canton Lions Club was chartered on April 29, 1932 and has been in continuous service to our community since then. The club is engaged in projects to provide vision assistance to those in need, eyeglass recycling, diabetes awareness, Peace Poster contest each year, and sponsoring the STAR Student recognition program for the Cherokee County high schools since 1958. The club supports other local charitable organizations as well to further serve our community.
The two major fundraisers for the Canton Lions Club are the Canton Lions Golf Classic, held each spring, and the Canton Lions Express, a minature train operated at the annual Riverfest Arts Festival.
On November 17, 2022 the Club held our regular meeting. The program was Stephanie Joyner from History Cherokee, who told us about the new History Center which recently opened, describing all of the permanent exhibits and the plans for furture.
Once again this year the Club has a Christmas tree at the RT Jones Memorial Library at 116 Brown Industrial Parkway, Canton, GA. The tree was put up by Lion Jack Weaver and his wife Caryolyn:
At our November 3, 2022 meeting, the speaker was Cheryl Mosley from Cherokee Thanksgiving. Cheryl spoke to us about this year's preparation and distribution of meals. The Club made a $1,000 donation to this year's Cherokee Thanksgiving.
On October 20, we held a regular club meeting. The speaker was Gwen Freeman, Cherokee County School District, who spoke to the club about mentorship opportunities in the school system. We look forward to working with Gwen.
On October 6, we held our regular club meeting. The speaker was Hon. Ellen McElyea, Chief Judge of the Cherokee County Superior Court. Judge McEleya spoke to us about the courhouse expansion and the upcoming SPLOST referendum to fund the construction.
On October 4, we had a board meeting to discuss upcoming events and to begin planning for 2023.
On September 24 and 25, the Canton Lions Express was running at Riverfest. We raised $6,400, which is the most we have ever done. Thank you to all of our sponsors.
On September 15, we held our annual picnic to get the train ready for Riverfest.
On September 1 we had our regular club meeting. The speaker was Zip Cain, who is now the leader of Give A Kid A Chance. Zip reported on this year's event, which provided school supplies to approximately 2,000 children heading back to school. Zip also shared the goals for next year's event, which will be in July 2023.

At the August 18 regular club meeting we had Lt. Jessee Ray from the Canton Police Department speak. He gave us great information about the police department and its activities in the community.
After the regular club meeting on September 1, there was a board meeting to discuss upcoming projects and planning.
At the August 4 meeting District Governor Al Hernandez and First Vice District Governor Dennis Chapman came to swear in the officers for 2022-2023. District Governor Hernandez also spoke about his goals for the district for the year.

At the July 21, 2022 meeting our speaker was Bill Grant, Mayor of the City of Canton. Mayor Grant brought us up to date with all of the city's plans and projects that are in the works. Also in attendance was a guest, Joan Stark.

At our regular meeting on June 16, 2022 at Stratus the speaker was Sabrina Kirkland from Habitat for Humanity. She spoke to the club about Habitat's activity in Cherokee County and how the Lions Club can get involved. The club made a $500 donation to Habitat. Here is Club President Hal Johns presenting the check.
