The Cameron Lions Club has been very supportive of youth and adult projects in the community during the past eighty-seven years. The Club was very instrumental in raising funds for the building of the Cameron Public Library in the early 1960’s. The Lions Club was a big supporter of the initial fund raising project for the Milam County Youth Exposition Building in 1977. The Club has continued to support this organization with its additions and improvements to the building. This building is used by the Milam County Junior Livestock Show, Little River Basin Master Gardeners Plant Sale and Activities, Lions Club Radio Auction, Boy Scout Activities, youth sporting events, Agriculture in the Classroom Projects for Milam County 4th Grade Students, events for FFA and 4-H groups and the Texas AgriLife Extension Service. The Lions Club contributes annually to Texas Lions Camp at Kerrville and Texas Eye Bank. The Club has always been a 100% supporter of these activities. The Leader Dog Program and District Mobile Screening Unit has benefitted greatly from the Cameron Lions Club. The Club contributed to the building of the community tennis courts in the local park. Recently the Club contributed to the replacement of the backboards. These tennis courts are used by the community as well as the junior high and high school tennis groups. The Cameron Lions Club started and sponsors a Junior High Leo Club and a High School Leo Club. The Lions Club helps fund Leo Club projects and community service activities. The Cameron Lions Club coordinated a county-wide food drive to benefit local food banks, food pantries, and support organizations in the county. In the fall of 2009, this project raised over 3,500 pounds of food in a two week project.   The Lions Club purchases eye glasses for students and adults in the community. In the past thirty-five years, the club has purchased two sets of playground equipment for a local park. In the original set the steps in playground equipment were worn out by the use of the kids. The Lions Club contributes over $5,000.00 to the high school scholarship program each year.   The group also is a big financial contributor to youth groups including boy scouts, FFA, softball and baseball organizations, senior celebration, and 4-H events and activities.
