Lions garden party with tombola

On Saturday, 15th of September 2012, our Lions Club organized the annual garden party in Snagov. During the garden party and the related annual Lions Club Romania rowing boat contest, we prepared a tombola for our guests.

With the money we raised we will have a trip organized with kids from two different installations. Casa Florian and Centru de plasament "Sf. Spiridon" are two installations in Bucharest, where socially disadvantaged children and adolescents are fostered.

On 20th of October we will take some of the kids to a trip into the mountains. We will visit an adventure parc. There, they and also we, will have to prove how courageous we are. It will be a day full of team-building activities that will help the kids getting prepared for their future, working on their soft-skills.

An article about this activity and pictures will follow!

10th year anniversary of the JOYO foundation

Today, the 14th of September 2012, from 13:30 to 18:00, 6 members from our club participated in the festivity organized by the JOYO foundation. The reason to celebrate was the foundation's 10th year anniversary.

The foundation owns a house in Bucharest, where kids with a very complicated social background are fostered in daycare. One of our members even moderated the whole event.

There were many international guests, including the German and the Helvetian ambassador in Romania, With our participation, and the different activities we were involved, we succeeded in increasing the awareness for Lions Clubs in Romania and also for Lions Club International.

To gain a higher visibility a bigger frame-event, the Bucharest International Marathon 2012 on Sunday, 07.10.2012, was chosen for our club’s activity.

Our aims for this activity were: 1. to increase awarenes for Lions World Sight Day in special and 2. for the work of Lions Club in general. As likable side effects the event 3. functioned as a team-building measure within the club and 4. we spent several hours in the fresh air, doing sports and enjoyed the phenomenal scenery and atmosphere.

Prior to the race we planned the handover of the glasses, we received from the social-school-project “Eric’s Fight for Sight”, to our Distrcit Governor, Mr. Paul Grecu.

At 08:45 we officially handed over approximately 200 collected eyeglasses to the Governor.

These glasses should now become part of the “Lions Recycle for Sight Program”. They should help children to get a better education and increase their quality of life, adults to get a better job and earn more money and seniors to become more independent from others.

Two teams were registered for the relay race. Lions World Sight Team #1 consisted of Marco Wenzl, Flavia Abrudan, Silvia Wenzl and Alina Neculai. The other team, Lions World Sight Team #2 was formed by Razvan Murariu, Iulia Popa, Carmen Jipa and Traian Login.

All team-members reached the finish line within the time-limit of 1:30hr per runner and both teams finished with a mid-range result. Well done Lions!

Every participant in the relay-race and the present Lions friends who supported us with cheers and all the other necessary things like water and energy bars could be proud of what they did on this special day for Lions Club International.
