90th Anniversary Celebration & Dinner, Nov. 21, 2016

The Bridgton Lions Club celebrated their 90th Anniversary on November 21st at the Bridgton Academy.      After dinner a Proclamation from Governor LePage, congratulating the Club on their 90 years of continuous service to the community, was presented by Maine State Representative Phyllis Ginzler.     A synopsis of the Club’s history was presented by Lion Bob Pelletier, who also recognized the 25 past recipients of the “Melvin Jones Fellow” award.      Ron Johnson, Past International Lions Director, gave the keynote speech.    Ron described many of his traveling adventures as an International Director and praised the Club for their selfless service to the community for the past 90 years.   Current Club President Al Glover was honored for 58 years of continuous service as a Lions member.   Al has served as Club President 4 times, District 41(State of Maine) Secretary, Treasurer and Governor.     A “Special Achievement Award” from the Lions District 41 was presented by Norman Hart, 1st Vice District 41 Governor.

 

The Bridgton Lions Club, formed on Nov. 4, 1926 and chartered on June 28, 1927, has been serving the Bridgton community for 90 years.    It has a rich and varied history and is always there to help those who need it the most.  The Club focuses on:

  • providing Vision Screening for students at the Stevens Brook Elementary School and other local elementary schools
  • sponsoring "Student of the Month" at Lake Region High School
  • collecting glasses and hearing aids
  • providing glasses and hearing aids for those who cannot afford them
  • providing medic alert devices those who cannot afford them
  • supporting and chartering the Bridgton Boy Scouts for over 50 years
  • supporting Lake Region High School's "Project Graduation"
  • supporting the Maine Sight & Hearing organization
  • supporting the Bridgton Community Center's Fuel Collaborative
  • sponsoring multiple "Kettle Dinners" at the Bridgton Community Center
  • sponsoring the annual July 4th Parade for over 50 years
