BRIDGEPORT LIONS CLUB
SPECIAL NEWSLETTER
February 7, 2013
The February 7th meeting was very well attended with an outstanding meal and an excellent speaker. The speaker was John D. Belcastro, chairman and Marketing Director for the 2013 Benedum Festival which will be held on July 12-13, 2013. They are gearing up for the "Festival of the Century". They are planning on making this the biggest and best event in many years. They are putting a new spin on the festival by incorporating an Oil and Gas Expo into the event. They will definitely be exhibiting the spirit of Michael Benedum by inviting local oil and gas producers to participate. With the option to set up booths, producers and related industries can distribute literature, exhibit displays describing procedures and products and answer questions about the drilling and extracting process.
The Oil and Gas producers will submit five-man teams-their "Roughnecks", if you will - to compete against teams in challenges such as archery tag, sled pull, tug-o-war, mechanical bull competition and more.
Other new activities will include a talent contest sponsored by Cava & Banco. Monetary prizes will be awarded. They are also bringing back some of the older games of past "Bridgeport Firemen's Fairs." Those old enough will remember activities such as dunking booth, bean bag toss, ring toss, dart throw, etc. They will still provide the long standing staples such as the best fireworks in the area, live music, food and craft vendors, Pet parade - chaired by own Lion Marsha Jones (will be held this year on Friday evening, July 12th), cup cake contest; 5K run, fishing derby, LIONS CLUB chicken roast, children's activities and car show.
So it sounds like it will a Great Festival this year. Thanks to John for providing us with the information.
