Committee Chairpersons and Community Programs

The Brentwood Lions Club is proud to support local youth, families, nonprofit organizations, and community events throughout Brentwood. Each program is guided by dedicated chairpersons and co-chairs who help organize volunteers, coordinate activities, and ensure our service projects make a meaningful difference.

Pancake Breakfast

Chairperson: Skip Zehnder

The Pancake Breakfast Committee coordinates one of the Brentwood Lions Club’s popular community gatherings. The committee oversees event planning, volunteer coordination, food service, setup, and community outreach.

Scouts

Chairperson: Andres Baires

The Scouts Committee supports local scouting organizations and helps strengthen programs that teach leadership, responsibility, teamwork, and community service to young people.

Downtown Brentwood Coalition

Chairperson: Sandy Sellars

The Downtown Brentwood Coalition liaison helps maintain a strong relationship between the Brentwood Lions Club and the downtown business community. This role supports collaboration on local events, activities, and community improvement efforts.

HIJAS

Chairperson: Phil and Laura Avila

The HIJAS Committee coordinates the Brentwood Lions Club’s support and involvement with the organization, helping connect members with opportunities to assist its programs, events, and community outreach efforts.

LEO Club

Co-Chairs: Melissa and Chris Van Ruiten

The LEO Club Committee mentors and supports young people participating in Lions-sponsored service activities. The program helps students develop leadership skills, build confidence, and experience the value of serving their community.

Shepherd’s Gate

Chairperson: Tawnya Erickson

The Shepherd’s Gate Committee coordinates support for women and children working toward safety, stability, and independence. The committee helps organize donations, volunteer opportunities, and other forms of assistance.

Crab Feed

Co-Chairs: Sandy Sellers and Kevin Erickson

The Crab Feed Committee plans and coordinates one of the club’s major fundraising events. Responsibilities include event organization, ticket sales, sponsorships, volunteers, food service, entertainment, and guest experience.

Murder Mystery Dinner

Co-Chairs: Sandy Sellers and Kevin Erickson

The Murder Mystery Dinner Committee oversees the planning and production of this entertaining community fundraiser. The committee coordinates the venue, program, decorations, volunteers, ticket sales, auctions, and event activities.

Peace Poster Contest

Chairperson: Jinni Ciruli

The Peace Poster Contest gives local students an opportunity to express their vision of peace through art. The committee works with schools, coordinates entries, and helps recognize participating students.

Youth in Government

Chairperson: Melissa Van Ruiten

The Youth in Government Committee helps introduce students to civic leadership and public service. The program encourages young people to learn about local government, community involvement, and responsible citizenship.

Student Speaker Contest

Co-Chairs: Perry Chicaine and Andie Leandro

The Student Speaker Contest provides students with an opportunity to develop public-speaking skills and share their perspectives on important topics. The committee coordinates participation, judging, event logistics, and recognition.

Scholarships

Chairperson: Lisa Maule
 

The Scholarship Committee manages the club’s scholarship program for local students. The committee coordinates applications, reviews submissions, selects recipients, and helps recognize students for their achievements and community involvement.

Eyeglass Collection

Co-Chairs: Mike Hayes and Adrian Tatarakis

The Eyeglass Collection Committee supports the Lions’ worldwide vision mission by collecting used prescription glasses and sunglasses. Donated glasses are prepared for distribution to individuals and communities in need.

Chamber of Commerce

Chairperson: Melissa Van Ruiten

The Chamber of Commerce liaison represents the Brentwood Lions Club within the local business community. This role helps build partnerships, share information, and identify opportunities for community collaboration.

Food Bank Contact and Organizer

Chairperson: Rich Gurney and Martin Lonborg 

The Food Bank Contact and Organizer will coordinate the Brentwood Lions Club’s food collection and hunger-relief efforts. Responsibilities may include working with local food banks, organizing donation drives, recruiting volunteers, and coordinating the delivery of donated items.
