ENJOY.
On Sunday 6th August 2018 we held our annual 'Brecon Lions 10 mile Road Race'. We were extremely lucky with the weather being full sunshine. Unfortunately not so good for the runners. We managed to provide the necessary water bottles (only way to ensure runners get the water that is needed). Tempertaures where near the 90's (in old money) or 30C. The winner had an excellent time of just under 55 minutes for 10 miles! The course is through some of the most beautiful and delightful countryside on mainly quiet roads. The first lady home was just over the hour and was in about 10th position. We were delighted to have the assistance this year by some members of Brecon Rotary Club who kindly marshalled the busiest roads. many thanks to them. There were also other people who gave their time to help us with jobs such as registration, setting out the stadium and more importantly Clearing up. Our special thanks go to Stuart (non member) who worked his socks off before, during and after the event. Thank you Stuart.
September 2018. We shall be helping to marshall the 'Brecon Beast' which sadly will be the last one. The group who organise this event work hard and some 1500 cyclist take part. Money raised is then given to charitable causes.
On the Horizon are several events.
October/November. We shall be providing our 'Over 70's Lunch for senior citizens. We shall also be having our 'Dash & Grab' event at Morrisons Supermarket again nearer Christmas. Of course will shall have Santa meeting the children in Bethal Square Christmas week with his mini sleigh. Sadly, we will not be able to go around the streets and villages as before as we do not have enough members to fully support this. If however, we are able to get about a dozen volunteers we then would seriously consider doing what was always a highlight of Brecon Lions Club and a great source of pleasure for youngster (mums and dads as well).
