Who are Lions?
We are Lions! We are an organization of people -- people just like you -- who strive to serve the people in our community, particularly those in need. We are part of Lions Clubs International, the largest service organization in the world, with over 1.4 million members.
Our membership dues cover all of our administrative costs, community charities and services, and a meal at each meeting. We conduct various fund-raisers each year, and every dime of every fundraiser is returned to the community via additional charities and services.
We meet the needs of our communities and the world.
In our community, we buy eye exams and eyeglasses for needy children in the Brazosport Independent School District. At Christmas time, we deliver food baskets to ~ 50 needy families in the Brazosport area and greater Brazoria County.
On the world scale, the Lions are known for their work to end preventable blindness, our 1.4 million men and women in 200 countries and geographic locations participate in a vast variety of projects important to their communities. These projects range from conducting vision and health screenings to supporting eye hospitals to cleaning up local parks and highways to awarding scholarships, assisting youth, providing help and supplies to victims in time of natural disasters and much more.
In 1925, Helen Keller challenged Lions to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness” during the association’s international convention. Today Lions are recognized worldwide for their service to the blind and visually impaired. Lions demonstrate their commitment to sight conversation through eyeglass recycling, sight partnerships and countless other sight services.
