Meetings

Boston Lions is the branch of Lions Clubs International based in Boston, Lincolnshire. The club was formed in November 1974 and has served the local community ever since.

Lions Clubs International is a charitable organisation dedicated to helping the less fortunate in society, both in the United Kingdom and throughout the world.

The motto of Lions International is "We Serve" and this pretty much sums up the organisation. Boston Lions help the local community in a variety of different ways, the main ones are listed below. We make donations to local charities and to needy individuals. Although Boston Lions occasionally support national and international Lions projects the vast majority of the money we raise is spent locally.

We fundraise at various local events, usually by having a tombola stall and encourage members of the public to try to win a soft toy. It should be stressed that no Lion receives any payment for their services and all members of the club are unpaid volunteers. Indeed, the members are obliged to cover all administrative fees themselves so that every penny donated by members of the public is given to a worthy cause.

Club members also enjoy an active social life and in addition to attending regular meetings we also go out for meals and drinks, ten pin bowling as well as more formal events. We also attend events organised by other Lions clubs in Lincolnshire and beyond.

More recently many of our fundraising and social activities have unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus restrictions but we hope to gradually return to normal in the near future.

We are always looking for new members. To dispell some myths about Lions:- We are not a "secret society" which you have to be asked to join, nor is the organisation in any way elitist. You don’t have to be a "business person" or a wealthy "high flyer" to be a lion. Membership is open to anyone over the age of eighteen of either sex (Boston Lions have welcomed ladies on equal terms for several years now.) Lions Clubs have no political or religious bias and welcome membership from all sectors of the community. As with any group of people, a Lions Club has a variety of members all of whom add something to the club. Perspective members are normally asked to attend three meetings and if both the individual and the club are happy to proceed, the individual becomes a Lion. So if you fancy having a good time and helping the disadvantaged in society and you live in the Boston, Lincolnshire area then please get in touch via the " contact us "page. If you live outside our geographical area there will be a Lions club near to where you live. Please click the link to find a lions club near you
