Belwood Lions complete their pledge to Groves Hospital One Year Ahead of Plan
Belwood Lions are very pleased to advise that due to the success of this years Pike Derby; the tremendous support from our sponsors and anglers, and other Belwood Lions fundraisers, that we were able to complete our 2 year pledge to Groves Hospital of $10,000 for a vital signs monitor for the endoscopy department. Belwood Lions had pledged $10,000 over two years, but today donated the second $5000 (the initial $5000 donation made during our Pike Derby award ceremony) to Groves Hospital Foundation representative Lori Arsenault. This fulfills our pledge 1 year ahead of plan. Presenting the cheque for Belwood Lions is Sam Stewart and Ron Prior. Belwood Lions will continue to work with Groves to select future areas for supporting the great work Groves does to benefit our entire community. We look forward to future support from anglers, sponsors and the community the next Pike Derby May 27 & 27 2023

Our 40th annual derby! with two great tournaments in one,
a Pike Derby with Grand Prize $2000 & a Walleye Derby with Grand Prize $1000.
Anglers...wow...just like that..it is over!
We had a great time, we hope you did also.
Weather was mixed, started overcast and turned out a real beauti.
The fish on the other hand started off with a flurry and tailed off abruptly. Basically leaving everyone on Sunday either sporting a suntan or nursing sunburn
.
As always, we had a lot of laughs and some great outdoor time together. Thanks to all the generous sponsors, to the amazing Belwood Lions team that work so hard to pull this together and of course to you the anglers that so generously support the entire event and freely contribute to all the creative ways we find to help you generate contributions to such great causes. As announced, we continue our ongoing donation of $5000 annually to Groves Hospital, this time pledging $10,000 over two years for a Vital Signs Monitor for the Endoscopy dept. In total, we had slightly over 600 registrants and 47 fish on the board. See the official results attached. Thank you and see you in May 2023
Belwood Lions completes the Centennial Parkette
Belwood Lions have created a Centenial parkette facing Belwood Lake behind Belwood Hall. Constructed by the late Lion Elwin May and Belwood Lions, the area contains memorial benches to Lions Passed. It serves as a place of peace and contemplation for the surrounding community. Plaques recognize the project as the One Hundred Centenary of Lions in Canada, as well as of Elwin’s work in fabricating the many other memorial benches in Belwood park and along the Elora Cataract Trail and surrounding villages.

We had a great turnout with yummy pancakes, sausauges,egg, fruit cup and drinks and the kids got to meet the jolly old elf himself. We had a many people donate to our foodbank collection which was passed onto Centre Wellington Food Bank - thank you so much for your generousity and a special thanks to all our sponsors! Thank you Belwood community for an outstanding successful bottle drive Saturday 13 Jun.
Eight hundred and fifty wine/liquor bottles, numerous beer bottles plus bags of beer cans made a successful collection enabling more charitable donations for the Club to provide to the community.

Lions Effective Speaking
Pictured below are the classroom effective speaking winners at J.D.Hogarth Public School. A "Certificate of Achievement" was presented to them on Friday by Belwood Lions Effective Speaking CoChair Denis Vinette. These students were to be going onto the Lions District competition on March 28th in St. George, however unfortunately due to teachers contract discussions and more recently Covid-19 concerns, this competition has been cancelled for 2020 / 2021
That is of course not to take away from the achievement of these students in being recognized in their school competition.

Belwood Lions Christmas Craft Sale & Bazaar - OCT 20th
Our annual 'one-of-a-kind craft sale with local craftspeople.
We had a great turnout from the vendors with a wide selection of knitted articles, clothing, wooden craft, birdboxes, embroidery, jewellery, household, personalwear, basically something for everyone. A steady flow of people came and particated. The food booth was steady, and the penny table was a hit. All in all a great day, and all had fun.
Belwood Lions, in cooperation with the Township of Centre Wellington and Wellington County installed 12 flowerboxes on the bridge on County Rd #26, and the pedestrian bridge in Belwood Village as part of Belwood Lions community beautification. The flowerboxes provide a lovely splash of colour around the village and welcome visitors and cottagers alike.
Joel Pegg, MNRF Officer accepts a cheque donation from Belwood & District Lions Club Past President Julian Vines toward the MNRF YOUTH OUTDOOR DAY program. Every September youth aged from 9-18 yrs register to attend a day of outdoor educational events, demonstrations and activities at Luther Marsh Conservation Area.
Saturday Feb24th Belwood Lions had our annual spaghetti supper and entertainment. A full house was treated to our special supper, with dessert and refreshments, and later entertained by Mentalist Buzz Collins. An excellent evening of good food, good fun and good friendship
Belwood Lions Family Day - Family Fun Day 19 Feb 2018. Belwood Lions hosted a Family Day family fun day on Monday 19th Feb at Belwood Lions Ice RInk in Belwood. Despite the forecast of rain and overcast skys we had a good turnout and lots of fun on the rink. Families and kids alike enjoyed hockey shoot outs, curling, ice shuffleboard and plunger toss. Together with hot dogs, brownies, rice krispie squares, hot chocolate and coffee - a fun day was definately had by all.
Lions for Groves Chairperson Denis Vinette, along with Belwood Lions President Julian Vines present a cheque to Groves Hospital Foundation Communications Officer Sarah Sheenen as part of Belwood Lions' pledge to the Foundation. Lions for Groves is the formation of eight local Lions clubs Arthur, Belwood, Fergus, Elora, Grand Valley, Hillsburgh, Marsville, Rockwood with a goal to raise $200,000 for Groves Diabetes Education Centre.

The Food Bank provides a vital service within our community, offering a host of services and councelling in addition to assisting putting food on the tables of their clients.
DONATION TO PLAYGROUND FUND
Pictured below is Belwood Lions President Julian Vines presenting a cheque to Melissa Mulligan, Parent representative of John Black Public School Playground Fundraising Committee. Their objective is to raise funds to purchase and install Junior and Intermediate Playground structures at the school for the benefit of the students. They are half way to their $50,000 target, and planning installation of the first structure this spring.
EFFECTIVE SPEAKING COMPETITION
Belwood & District Lions Club hosted their annual Effective Speaking competition for area elementary school students on Tuesday evening, February 28 at Belwood Hall. Students from 4 Fergus area schools, namely John Black Public School, Victoria Terrace P.S., J.D. Hogarth P.S. and East Garafraxa P.S.. 15 students went head to head in 4 classes, Junior English & Junior French (Gr. 4-6) and Intermediate Eng. & French (Gr., 7&8). This event has been ongoing for more than 30 years.
The fantastic evening of great speech presentations was capped off with the trophy and cash awards. The sky was the limit when it came to interesting subject matter.

FARM DIE CAST TOY SALE
Sat Dec 3rd saw Belwood Lions host our 2nd Annual Farm Die Cast Toy Show and Sale. This year saw an excellent turnout of vendors and public to a great show. With draw prizes and a great food booth all morning and afternoon. We're already booking for next year @ Sat 2nd Dec.
CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING
Fri Dec 2 saw the 2nd Annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting in Belwood Village. The community joined Belwood Lions in Maple park watch the tree lighting and enjoy hot chocolate, cookies, candy canes and neighbourly friendship. Thanks to the Lions and local business for stringing up the lights again this year.
BELWOOD ICE RINK
Belwood Lions Ice Skating rink gets erected for the 2016 season. Enlarged this year to 65x75ft with a plastic sheet base to reduce melting....All we need now is cold weather, ice and skaters...bring on winter :). Thanks to all the Lions helping to make the boards, posts and do the building.
Belwood Lions Halloween Night -
Members of Belwood Lions gather at Belwood Park pavillion to shell out candy to neighbourhood ghouls, ghosties, princesses and superkids. Members dressed up also to join in the fun.
Lions Terry and Shon greet the many visitors to Belwood Lions First Annual Toy Show and Sale at Belwood Hall Dec 5th 2015. Vendors from across Southern Ontario came to display their many and varied selection of die cast collectables.
