MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT DOUG DOUBLEDAY, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2018
REGARDING HURRICANE FLORENCE RELIEF IN OUR COMMUNITY
"I have scheduled a General Membership Meeting for Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, 2 PM at Roland's BBQ (back room) and yes they starting serving today !! Thank you Lion Michie !
We will use this meeting to organize BLC support for our local communities. There are quite a few efforts already underway but among other needs are the following:
- Volunteers to help hand out 'MRE's' (Meals Ready to Eat) at the Beaufort Fire Department
- Volunteers to help at the Community Shelter at Beaufort Elementary School.
- Volunteers to help at the Ann Street United Methodist Church 'Store'
- Volunteers to help 'hand out' pet supplies at the 'Pet Relief Center' located at "Beaufort Pet Provisions" (call 252-269-0407 to schedule a shift). Open time is 12 - 4 PM daily.
I am aware of the following being open:
- Speedway Gas Station in Beaufort (no lines)
- Bucky Oliver was selling gasoline (for vehicles) at his 'Boat House'
- Post Office
- ACE Hardware in Beaufort
- Food Lion in Beaufort
- CVS in Beaufort
- Beaufort Grocery Food Truck (was free sandwiches)
- Free food at Beaufort Fire Department.
I am in communication with DG Ray and Zone Chair Robert about the planning in the works as to how and who we (BLC) can best serve. This will include LCI Grant support. I expect to know more by the meeting on Saturday.
Please pass the word about the meeting !
Please also let me know if you are aware of an immediate need in our community that we could help with.
..and of course continue "TO SERVE" !
There are quite a few Face Book 'pages' addressing local issues and status. Search on 'Beaufort'. and 'Florence'. (I struggle with Face Book.. 'old timers').
I hope to see as many of you as possible Saturday !
I know many of you are still arriving back in Beaufort to put your households back together. Be safe !
I wish everyone the best possible outcome from this storm.. We will move forward one day at a time and some day look back with pride on how our 'Beaufort Lions Club' supported our communities !
I will use e-mail as my preferred mode of communication.
Feel free to post these notes on our member web site and others as appropriate.
We will get through this together..
Doug Doubleday (BLC President) (H) 252-728-2259, (C) 607-761-0727
