The Bartow County Lions Club prides itself with our Legacy Project, The Braille Trail.
The Braille Trail, located within Dellinger Park in Cartersville, GA, is .45-mile-long consisting of a paved entrance connecting it to the parking lot, a hard-packed surface that is stroller and wheelchair friendly, and is lined with guide posts and ropes.
Ground first broke on the trail in the summer of 2015. In the 18 months that followed, hundreds of volunteer hours from the Lions Club, the Boys Scouts, and numerous organizations allowed the trail to be opened to the public for use.
Fast forward to 2022 and plans were set in motion for an expansion of the trail. In 2023 the ball started rolling and work began. At-risk dead trees and some underbrush were removed making way for a .15-mile expansion trail. This trail will ‘T’ in at the beginning and arc towards the pond then loop back around into the existing trail. In the middle overlooking the pond and fountain, there will be a Veteran’s memorial and sitting area.
This project, and many others, are primarily funded by 2 events that the BCLC hosts annually; The Pros vs Joes BBQ Competition and the Roar Run 5K race.
The BBQ has been going strong since 2012 and the Roar Run started in 2023 with hopes of continuing just as strong. Both of these events are hosted at Dellinger Park.
