Overview of South Austin Lions Club Projects 2021-2022
JANUARY: KidSight Vision Screenings - Ongoing
FEBRUARY: Texas Lions Camp Sponsorships - We sponsor many children who either have a disability or who have diabetes or cancer to attend this beautiful 500-acre camp in Kerrville, Texas during the summer months.
MARCH: KidSight Vision Screenings - Ongoing
APRIL: Buda Wiener Dog Race - Each April, we assist at one of the gates at this fun wiener dog race which is produced by the Buda Lions Club.
MAY: Texas Lions Camp Work Day - Each spring, we travel to Kerrville, TX to spend the day with Lions from all over Texas to help beautify this camp and get it ready for summer campers.
Youth Scholarships - Each May we select high school seniors to receive a $500 college scholarship.

SEPTEMBER: KidSight Vision Screenings - Ongoing
OCTOBER: White Cane Day - We assist at this event, held every year in October. This national observance date is set aside in the United States to celebrate the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired. Cancelled for 2021....
NOVEMBER: Family Care Basket - We collect canned goods, fresh food, and other necessities for families in need in the South Austin area. We also sponsor canned food drives in a few charter school locations in Austin and deliver, sort, and stock at the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.
Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Parent Saturday - Each November, we have a booth at this event where we hand out literature to parents about Leader Dogs and Guide Dogs for the Blind, answer questions, and are also equipped to check blood pressure.

Diabetes Awareness Essay Contest - We encourage youth who are members of the Leos Club we sponsor to participate in this state-wide essay contest.
Drug Awareness Speech Contest - We encourage youth who are members of the Leos Club we sponsor to participate in this state-wide speech contest.
Leo Club - Our club sponsors a Leo Club which meets at Premier High School of Austin. Leos are high school students who are learning about community service.
Outstanding Youth Award - Contestants, who are members of a Leos Club, are evaluated on high school grade point average, a 750-word essay, a personal biographical information statement, three letters of recommendation, performance of community service, leadership experience/participation and a personal interview.
Peace Poster Contest - Each year, our club, along with Lions clubs around the world, proudly sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. For more than 25 years, millions of children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest.
Vision Screening - We conduct Kid Sight Vision screenings using the SPOT camera. We schedule these screenings upon request.
