MEETINGS ARE 2nd AND 4th TUESDAY OF THE MONTH DISTRICT 1J

SERVICE PROJECTS
EYE CLASS COLLECTION
Through the past work of Bill Scanlon, Carillon residents had donated between 100-200 eyeglasses yearly. Bill would take those to Indiana for processing. In addition, he would take refinished eyeglasses to Haiti for distribution. The AURORA CARILLON LIONS Club is now undertaking this project. Donated eyeglasses can be taken to the Clubhouse (Eye Glass Collection Poster/box) Eventually, they will be brought to DeKalb (700 N. Peace Rd) for future distribution. The Lions of Illinois Foundation (LIF) since 1994, has donated 5,000,000 pairs of eyeglasses around the world.

FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN
The Aurora Carillon Lions Club will be doing once a month service work at FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN. Barbara Javaras will be in charge of scheduling Lions members as well as the Carillon Community. Already 12 Lions members have volunteered there providing 117 children meals for a full year. Many Carillon residents in the past have volunteered at the Aurora facility. Club members will be going to FMSC Feb. 22 as part of our monthly support to address hunger in the world.

WAYSIDE CROSS
In April we will have our semiannual clothing drive. In November over
1200 items were brought in from our Carillon Community for WAYSIDE CROSS. Barbara Javaras is helping coordinate this event. Good way for Spring Cleaning!
February is Cancer Awareness Month. At our Feb. 23 meeting the Director of Waterford Place Cancer Resource Center gave our Club a Virtual Tour with some history. Our Club has donated $100 toward WATERFORD PLACE CANCER RESOURCE CENTER. In addition a list of possible donation items was presented. Lou Scanlon has been working on this project.

SOCIAL EVENTS
The SUPERBOWL organized by Susan Koepke and Karen McCann raised $250 for future Club service projects. All 100squares were filled.
Valentine's Week had the Club hold MOVIES AND MUSIC-ROMANCE 2. Also the Club worked with Sunnymere and Bickford Place Senior Living so residents could also participate. SONGS
Perhaps the most famous song involving a lion is A LION SLEEPS TONIGHT which was a Christmas 1961-62 hit for the TOKENS. Originally placed on the B side (TINA was A). The song originated from South Africa in the 1930's by Solomon Linda. Then it was called MBUBE. The song in the US prior to the Tokens was called WIMOWEH which made it to #15 with Pete Seeger and the Weavers. The Kingston Trio also recorded it in 1959. The Tokens in renaming the song also added new lyrics. The song came back at #3 in 1971 and has appeared in two THE LION KING movies. Disney settled a lawsuit with the Solomon Linda estate in the 1990's regarding royalties. (source ROLLING STONE)
